Choosing the Best Time to Cruise the Caribbean

Caribbean cruises are wonderful. The Caribbean is made up of thousands of islands which have a wide variety of different cultures. You can visit the sandy beaches of the Bahamas, eat the best French food outside of Paris at St. Barts or you can choose to visit the Cayman Islands to experience sublime snorkeling and scuba diving.

Due to its ideal weather, Caribbean cruises run year round and Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, FL is a great location from which to set off. So when is the best time to pack your bags and voyage to this tropical paradise? Your answer will probably depend on a couple of different factors, but no matter the time of year when you decide to go, FLL Park Safe provides the best Port Everglades cruise parking service.

High Seasons vs. Low Seasons

The high seasons for the Caribbean coincide with the times that students are out of school: mid-December through mid-January (Holiday Break), late February through mid-April (Spring Break) and June through August (Summer Vacation). Because the high seasons are also the dates that families are able to take vacations, prices tend to be higher to match the higher demand. If you book a cruise during these times, you should expect a crowded ship and a more festive experience. The spring break season can become especially rambunctious.

Cruising the Caribbean during the low seasons offers a more laid-back, relaxed atmosphere, and cruises tend to be a bit cheaper with many deals available during these times. The low season includes mid-April through May and September through late February (minus the holiday season). If you don’t have children, you might find these times to be the best and most convenient to book a cruise.

The Caribbean is famous for its wonderful weather which stays temperate year round. Hurricane season runs from June through November. If you book a cruise during this time, it is highly recommended you purchase trip insurance with coverage for hurricanes. Most cruises will opt to change their course to detour around the path of a hurricane in the event that one would affect the planned route.

The Caribbean has its best weather between December and April. During this time, the seas are calmer, there are more sunny days and it rains much less frequently. However, the water tends to be colder which might not be ideal for those looking to really take advantage of the water through activities such as scuba diving or snorkeling. A lot of northerners from the U.S. and Canada descend during this time to escape the winter in the frigid north and enjoy some nice weather and lot of sunshine.
